Over 34 million people of 65 and a half lac households in over 22,000 villages were benefited by December 2009 as a result of massive Watson (water and sanitation) program of the NGO Forum for Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation. The national network and service delivery organization in water supply and sanitation sector has installed 40,207 shallow tubewells, 4157 deep-set pumps, 2755 deep tubewells and 330 pond sand filters in addition to 1926 arsenic-iron removable plants and 2834 rain water harvesting system. Since it was established in 1980 the Forum has installed about 72 lac sanitary latrines in the country.

The organization involved other actors including 857 NGOs and CBOs in the field. It trained 35,208 staff members of partner NGOs, 12,000 government functionaries, over 19,000 Local Government Institutions and 2 lac 30 thousand community people.

In response to the long-felt need for safe drinking water, sanitation including hygienic habits in the Chittagong Hill Tracts the NGO Forum, in partnership with local NGOs, has been implementing the WatSan Programme since long to support the development of sustainable community-managed and community-owned water and sanitation programmes with an aim to ensuring the hard-to-reach people’s right to water and sanitation facilities.
