The 50-bed general hospital of the Society for Social Service (SSS) of Tangail has provided medical treatment to 1 lac 17 thousand 990 patients in the year 2009. This was in addition to about 15,000 poor, men, women and children who received medicare from its mobile clinics in last year. The organization is also running 15 Health Centers at upzila and union levels.

Microcredit, health, education, agriculture and other programs of SSS for the poor and the disadvantaged stretch over 27 districts form Lalmonirhat in the north to Chittagonj in the south. Unconventional programs for the extremely disadvantaged and vulnerable included rehabilitation of on the average 100 children of the sex-workers every year, education for children of the Harijans, the children engaged in hazardous ‘bidi’ making work and stipends for 122 meritorious poor children last year.
