BRAC has installed 12 lac 44 thousand 626 latrines in the rural areas throughout the country last year (2009). Its hygienic promotion activities for creation sanitation awareness included training of Imams and holding about 6000 mosque forums. The organization provided Essential Health Care services to 100 million people in all the 64 districts of Bangladesh.

According to the Annual Report-2009 of the world’s largest NGO, over US$ 1 billion (over Tk. 7000 crore) microloans were disbursed to 60 lac members of 2 lac 95 thousand 507 Village Organisations (VO) with a total membership of 80 lac. Members’ savings increased by 15% to US$ 269 million (Tk. 1883 crore). Highlight was the Borga Chashi Unnayan (Development of Sharecroppers), a credit program of Tk. 500 crore received from the central band as loan, for the sharecroppers who had on access to the formal banking system.

Its international operations also expanded with programs in Afghanistan extending to three new provinces.

In monga affected areas BRAC introduced early maturing rice varieties to created space for a third crop, like labour-intensive potato, in between aman and boro thereby raising employment by 65 person days reducing seasonal migration.
