A Consultation on “Revisiting Aila: Cry for Safe WaSH,” organized by NGO Forum for Public Health and Bangladesh Center for Advance Studies, recommended for a separate Integrated Coastal Zone Management Authority. The Conference reviewed the present situation of safe water and sanitation of the Aila-hit population and its impact on Public Health and disclosed that severe drinking water crisis prevails in the affected areas even after 5 years of the occurrence. It recommended a number of actions to ensure safe water, sanitation and health rights of the marginalized population of the south-western coastal region. The recommendations included repairing and maintaining of polders damaged by Aila, stopping unplanned saline water shrimp culture practices, re-excavation of rivers, khals, ponds and highest priority on addressing maternal health risks as a result of drinking unsafe saline water.
