‘Begging Eradication Program’ of the Society for Social Service (SSS) of Tangail has been rehabilitating beggars by giving them skill development training in various trades, along with assets transfer and bringing credit facility within their reach. The trades include making mats, shoe repair, sewing, hawking of household commodities, bicycle and rickshaw repair, poultry, livestock etc. Providing basic health care is also a part of the program. Children of a number of such former beggars are now going to school. The present condition and activities of over 200 beggars are being followed up by SSS.
